What is the MCI Screening Test?

The MCI Screening Test was first introduced in the year of 2002 for Indian students who completed their MBBS degree in a country other than India, such as China, Ukraine, Russia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Barbados, and Caribbean countries. The students who are eligible to write this test must be from the medical schools which are registered in the WHO International Directory Medical Schools & MCI list which is mentioned on their website. 

The Medical Council of India (MCI) Screening Test is also known as the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), is a National licensure Test conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE). This test is required for students who have completed their MBBS degree from abroad and want to practice in India.

Why MCI?

  • For students who have completed their MBBS degree from abroad and wish to practice medicine in India
  • They must take the MCI test to begin their medical practice in India
  • Once you clear this exam then only you will be able to practice medicine in India

  • The MCI Screening Test is conducted twice a year
  • The medium of instruction is English for the test
  • There will be 300 multiple choice questions, divided into two sections each one carries 150 marks
  • There is no negative marking in this test
  • Those who have scored 50% or more in their MBBS are eligible for this test
  • There is no limit to the number of attempts

Is MCI Screening Test Difficult?

MCI Screening Test is known to be a difficult exam that requires a lot of practice. A sincere student can clear the test on the first attempt. All Students from Angeles University Foundation have passed their exams in the first attempt. This test is a qualifying test similar to class 12 exams. It is not an elimination test such as IIT, where only the top 2-3000 students get admission, irrespective of marks. Here, all you have to do is get the 50% and you’re good to go.

What is the Age Limit for MCI Test?

There is no specific rule for the age as all those who complete their MBBS Degree can appear for the test.

What after the MCI Screening Test?

  • Candidates who cleared the MCI Screening Test can apply for permanent or provisional licence registration with either the Medical Council of India in Delhi or State Medical Council within two years from the completion of the test.
  • After clearing the MCI Screening Test, candidates must complete one year of internship in India. Those who don’t, will not be able to practice in India. National Exit Test (NExT) is proposed to take place in the year 2022, NEXT will replace three important exams: NEET-PG, and Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE). It is required for all MBBS final year students and will take place in two stages.
